Home » How to get around in Chamonix
- Walking – The centre of the city is just around the corner. There are a lot of shops just outside the apartment in Chamonix Sud, but just 5 min walk down the main street and you will be in the main area. The ski lift of Aiguille du Midi is just 250 meters away, but this one you only go up for the view or if you are with a guide. Sometimes we walk home from the city ski lift, Brévent, especially if we want an after-ski beer on the way, but with skis and skiing boots and two tired kids, I would recommend the ski bus for this
- Free city bus. There is a small free bus taking you to most of the different areas of the main city
- Skibus. The easiest way to get to the different ski areas is with the skiing business. They all stop just 100 meters from the apartment at Chamonix Sud and go rather often and are included in the lift card.
- Car. The biggest problem with Chamonix is that the skiing areas really are spread out. It is basically 9 larger different ski areas and having a car in the garage is an easy way to get around. Also having a car really make it possible to go to Verbier which is really nice too and included in the lift card. You don’t need a car, but it would be nice if you plan to get most of a long stay.
- There is also a train going through the valley connects the places, but the buses are easier
